Rob was brought up on a cattle and sheep property in Victoria, studied Engineering at Melbourne University and then spent time overseas before returning to Australia in 2001. Returning to the farm, he decided to embark on writing a piece of software to help make the most of the EID tags. It quickly became apparent how powerful individual animal data could be as an aid to making decisions and with growing interest from other producers, Sapien Technology was formed.

In the early years Rob gained a lot of experience across the livestock supply chain, assisting in troubleshooting early adoption issues during the rollout across Victoria and beyond. This knowledge, combined with a lot of feedback and collaboration with producers who were early adopters, meant he stepped out of the development role and the team began to grow.
